Whilst completing an Arts/Commerce degree at Monash University majoring in Management and Labour Economics, one thing that seemed consistent was that Economics and the core management and human resources theory never seemed to reconcile with each other – they were at opposite ends of the spectrum, in misalignment with each other and neither resembled the reality of businesses.
After being introduced to the value based pricing business model, Ron Baker and the Verasage Group and the strategic aspects of professional firm management, working with John Chisholm Consulting seemed like an inspiring idea for a career – aligning the values of the firm with both its clients and it’s employees.
As well as having gained experience working alongside John with many firms whilst finishing university degrees, Jess has continued to research both behavioural economics and strategic planning, believing that incorporating incentive and value alignment into strategic planning and management practices is crucial for the sustainable success of any business, particularly professional knowledge firms.
Having completed her degrees, she now works with John Chisholm Consulting as well as with firms on a project basis to help them develop and implement strategies which are vital for their sustainable success.
Jess has had experience with many projects dealing with areas such as:
- non-time based pricing strategies & analysis
- developing Key Predictive Indicators and internal management systems
- project planning and management
- marketing strategy and implementation
- website structuring and digital communications
- policy development and planning (probity, social media, communications,)
- individual, group and firm profitability analysis
- developing business plans
- and working with John to facilitate planning days, firm retreats and culture reviews.
Jess maintains a keen interest in the works of various authors and theorists, among them Peter Drucker, Dan Ariely, Ronald Baker, Dan Pink, Rory Sutherland, Peter Block and Daniel Kahneman. She is also a member of the Verasage Institute and was involved with Firm of the Future Forums in Australia, March 2012 with Ron Baker & other Verasage fellows, she also attended the Verasage Conference in Napa, 2011.
Particularly in businesses that rely on knowledge workers and their intellectual capital – it seems now more than ever that businesses need to ensure that both clients and employees feel valued to remain competitive and retain their team members. By pursuing a career in management consulting and value based pricing business models Jess hopes to continue to help businesses become sustainably successful.
